Doing cardio training first allows your weight training routine to suffer. Since muscle is metabolically active tissue burning fat as fuel, the more muscle you have the more calories or fat you can burn. An optimal fat burning state is after an intense weight training routine when you have depleted glycogen stores and start to burn fat as an energy source during your cardio workout that follows. Of course these rules only apply when you do your cardio training & weight training during the same session.
